ABC-ZED Project
We are currently soliciting requests for participation in the ABC-ZED workshops starting this September, 2010. Please join our list of potential participants by writing an e-mail to Rune Kongshaug.
Please see a detailed description of Design Workshops below.
The "Architecture 2030 Challenge" is a US-lead initiative that aims to reduce the level of energy consumption and the release of greenhouse gases in new construction by 90% as compared to 2005 emission levels. As of July 2010—with the monitoring systems at Productive House in place—Design 1 Habitat has launched the ABC-ZED project in support of this challenge [ZED stands for Zero Emission Development or Zero (fossil) Energy Development].
The ABC-ZED project consists of assembling various leaders in design, science and construction around the development of new integrated design solutions ("modules") and best practices. Design 1 Habitat will host design workshops and develop technical specifications.
Our goal is to replicate and expand the Productive House model to various building types and scales in the Quebec marketplace and elsewhere. At the Productive House, we target 60-80% energy autonomy and a 50% reduction of the global carbon footprint of MpH occupants. The performance will be monitored and shared amongst D1H members and published to general audiences.
- Where? The Productive House, Post-occupancy monitoring.
- When? Starting July 7, 2010.
- How? Hosting of design workshops and monitoring of mechanical, economic, social and overall environmental performance of the Productive House.
- What? The development of replicable design modules and technical blueprints.
- What? Tools destined to serve construction trades facilitating the migration and integration of innovative solutions across the construction industry in Quebec and elsewhere.
